The Monmouth Rugby Football Club was originally established as the Brookdale College Rugby Football Club in the fall of 1973 by Doug Coil and Steve Barberio, who were teachers at the college. Over the years, the club transitioned to become the Monmouth Rugby Football Club. During the late 1970s, the club competed in the Metropolitan Division I, and in the early 1980s, it experienced several strong seasons before moving back to Division II. The club regained its winning momentum in the 1990s, securing championships like the Jersey Cup.
