After an eight year fight renters in Concord- families, workers, seniors- won a rent cap and just cause ordinance in April 2024. This year a new council member Pablo Benevente decided to “review” it and gutted the hard fought local policy impacting the jurisdictions most marginalized residents. But things took a dirty turn at a recent city council meeting to read the first draft and provide public comment when CAA, the largest corporate landlord lobby in CA, paid working class people from in and around Concord, $250 cash, to show up and speak in support of Pablo and repealing the original policy. @mercnews reporter Kate Telerico uncovers what happened. Read the fascinating details in the story; link in bio! (fb)

Courageous frontline transit workers in Santa Clara County and their union, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 265, have consistently stood with their riders in the fight for better transit service. Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority should immediately resolve the contract dispute with a fair offer that respects the risks and sacrifices these workers face every day on the job. Public Advocates stands in solidarity with these courageous workers, and in support of the sanctity of the right to strike. (fb)
