Our mission is to provide a homelike atmosphere filled with encouragement and supportive care that allows our senior citizens to live out their lives with dignity and independence.

Historic Homes of Runnemede Inc

Historic Homes of Runnemede Inc is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing residential care and independent living services for seniors. The organization operates a community of historic homes located in downtown Windsor, Vermont, which have been carefully restored to offer a comfortable and home-like environment for elderly residents.

Overview

The organization manages a campus comprising three 19th-century mansions: the Cox House, the Stoughton House, and the Evarts House. These buildings blend historic charm with modern senior living amenities. The Cox House offers seven independent senior apartments, each featuring a bedroom, living room, and kitchenette with off-street parking. Meanwhile, the Stoughton and Evarts Houses provide Level III Residential Care Nursing licensed by the State of Vermont, offering nursing oversight and assistance with medication management, but not full-time nursing care.

Services

Historic Homes of Runnemede emphasizes a supportive environment that includes freshly prepared, family-style meals; housekeeping; laundry services; personal care assistance; and medical supervision. Residents benefit from private rooms with bathrooms in the nursing care houses and access to 24/7 Personal Care Attendants who assist with medication administration as ordered. A Registered Nurse Administrator is on duty weekdays, with nursing staff available on call during evenings and weekends.

Additional services include respite care and hospice care. The community accepts both private pay and Medicaid. Prospective residents must be under the care of a primary medical provider and meet specific health criteria. Applications for residency are maintained and candidates are notified as appropriate living spaces become available.

Location and Environment

All residences are situated within walking distance of historic downtown Windsor, Vermont, providing easy access to local amenities and award-winning medical care at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, located approximately five minutes away. The setting offers access to quiet nature trails and therapeutic outdoor environments around Lake Runnemede, supporting residents’ well-being and quality of life.

Community Role

In addition to residential care, Historic Homes of Runnemede serves the community by preparing and packaging meals for the Meals on Wheels program, contributing to senior nutrition and outreach efforts in the region.

Summary

Historic Homes of Runnemede Inc combines historic preservation with senior care by providing a range of living options from independent apartments to licensed residential care within a serene and supportive community. Its commitment to maintaining the dignity, comfort, and health of seniors is reflected in its comprehensive services and the unique character of its historic homes.
