Beloved Streets of America aims to revitalize and conserve streets bearing the honorable name of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beloved Streets Of America will collaborate with individuals, groups, and organizations to revitalize A 10 year nationwide study of Martin Luther King, Jr. streets revealed that the majority were located in impoverished cities containing distressed neighborhoods in which blacks predominantly live. Considered unsafe and crime ridden, whites and non-blacks seldom travel these streets. These areas typically experience a lack of sustainable community, economic development, and cultural revitalization activities. Many places that once proudly adopted the MLK name have become centers of the most distressed neighborhoods in America. After seeing these conditions along the eight mile stretch of St. Louis' MLK Drive, Mr. Melvin White founded Beloved Streets of America. Simply put, White wants to bring back pride and prosperity to these communities.St. Louis is a prime example that will serve as a leader in this endeavor for the rest of the nation by ultimately expanding the BSA mission to over 900 places in America that have a street named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. which is currently in a condition that dishonors the man's life, work, and deeds. The “Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Park" is the first planned project of BSA. The Executive Staff and Board of Directors, working with civic leaders, have implemented a comprehensive plan to reverse the urban decline and decay of the communities surrounding the streets named after MLK and provide a positive environment for growth. This park will help revitalize the residential and commercial areas, which will also create a center for culture and entertainment. BSA will be making a series of repairs and improvements that will be focused around providing immediate results by renewing existing assets that are currently not being utilized. We will also be providing services such as childcare and healthcare that are needed and will be utilizing skills within the community. By doing this, BSA will be creating advancement for the residents through renovation and new service opportunities.
