We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Gawn Grainger who performed in 40 productions over 5 decades at the National Theatre. He first appeared in the 1972 company at the Old Vic alongside Laurence Olivier and was most recently in Saint George and the Dragon in 2017. Gawn was a class act and a brilliant company member. His craft was immense and generous, and he was an inspiration to younger actors lucky enough to work with him. His roles included Macduff opposite Anthony Hopkins’ Macbeth, Sorin in The Seagull, the title role in The Marriage of Figaro and Jimmy in Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads. As a friend and colleague for more than 50 years, he will be so missed by many.
