Memory Eternal: Gregory Mouratidis Our brother in Christ, Gregory Mouratiidis, has fallen asleep in the Lord. Please join his family and friends in prayer for the repose of his soul and support them in their time of loss. Wake: Friday, May 30, 2025 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church - 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT Funeral: Friday, May 30, 2025 11:00 a.m. Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church - 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT Gregory Mouratidis, born September 14, 1927, died Thursday May 22nd, 2025 at The Orange Rehab and Healthcare center @ 2:25 pm . He is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth and son John Athenson (Athanasiadis) and daughter-in-law Mary Jane, Grandchildren James and Arin. Additionally he is survived by loved ones, sister-in-law Linda Morris and numerous nephews nieces along with extended family in Greece. Gregory was born in Exohi, Drama, Greece and managed to survive two wars. Even as a teenager, along with his father Christos, he actively participated in the support and efforts of the Allied Forces and underground resistance, inclusive of working for the British and training, in the last year of WWII. Following this, he also was involved in the conflict against the communist uprising in Greece, also known as the “Civil War” for several years. He later served in the Greek Army, Special Forces. At the end, having survived but with lost opportunities as a young man growing up in conflict and devastation, he spend many years as a professional photographer in Thessaloniki, Greece. Later he had the opportunity, with priority immigration status, to move to England but chose in 1966, to migrate with his wife and son, to the USA and join his two younger brothers, Philip and George Morris, who are now predeceased. He ended his professional career working as a machinist and operator at the Bic Pen Corporation. He was part of the Saint Barbara choir and over many years and served the Saint Barbara Parish in many roles. A Funeral service will be celebrated at the Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT 06477, Friday, May 30, 2025 @ 11: 00 am. A Burial to follow the Orange Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at the church from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name and to this church.
