TX Reads is a project of Literacy San Antonio, Inc. to increase the number of children reading on grade level by empowering teachers to follow the science of teaching reading. SAReads is a project of Literacy San Antonio, Inc. to successfully teach children to read by empowering teachers in high-poverty schools to use science-based reading instruction (SBRI). SBRI is organized around the five components of reading, including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency, and is aligned with how the brain processes oral and written language.SAReads provides SBRI programs for preservice and classroom teachers, while supplementing student reading instruction with family engagement experiences. In addition, the SAReads Book Bank works to eradicate book deserts across Bexar County as well as enhance classroom libraries by giving thousands of books to children, teachers and nonprofits.

Literacy in Action by TX Reads Connecting daily classroom routines to evidencebased reading instruction. Literacy in Action guides teachers and instructional leaders through the process of implementing evidencebased reading instruction. Educators gain knowledge and skills through micro lessons that connect reading theory to daily classroom routines and instructional materials. Literacy in Action is systemwide professional development for leaders and teachers shifting to structured literacy.
