Little Red Schoolhouse District 59 Experience what school was like in 1913. One room schoolhouses were the norm in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Grades one through eight were taught together by a single teacher with the oldest students sitting in the back and the younger students in front. Schoolhouses were heated by a single wood stove and students made do with just chalk and a slate.
