Best Day Foundation, Inc.
Best Day Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on providing opportunities for children and young adults with special needs to build confidence and self-esteem through safe, fun, adventure experiences.
Mission
The organization aims to empower these individuals by offering activities such as surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, and snow sports. It achieves this by partnering each child with a "Beach Buddy" who guides them through these experiences, ensuring a supportive and enjoyable environment.
History
Best Day Foundation was founded in March 2008 in Santa Cruz, California, by Brooks Lambert and Max Montgomery. The foundation grew from its initial chapter in New Jersey to include chapters in California, Florida, and Virginia. Following the passing of Brooks Lambert in 2021, the foundation shifted its organizational structure but maintained its mission and vision. Currently, Best Day operates on the Virginia and New Jersey coasts.
Activities and Programs
Best Day Foundation organizes "adventure days" where participants engage in activities tailored to their abilities. These events are designed to be inclusive and supportive, involving a range of water and land activities like tandem surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, stand up paddling, and beach activities.
Financial Overview
Best Day Foundation relies on donations, grants, and sponsorships for funding. In previous fiscal years, contributions formed the majority of its revenue, while expenses were primarily allocated to supporting programs and community engagement.
Governance and Partnerships
The foundation is governed by a diverse board of directors, featuring professionals from various backgrounds. It also partners with local community groups, businesses, and national sponsors to enhance its impact. Corporate partnerships help reinforce brand value by demonstrating commitment to inclusivity and supporting individuals with disabilities.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering with Best Day Foundation offers a rewarding experience where individuals can directly impact the lives of children with special needs. Volunteer roles range from "Beach Buddies" to administrative and event support positions, requiring no special skills and allowing volunteers of all ages (with parental supervision for those under 14) to participate.
Impact
Best Day Foundation's programs have been described as life-changing for participants, enhancing confidence and self-esteem among children and young adults with special needs. The organization's dedication to inclusivity and community support contributes to its meaningful impact on families and communities it serves.
