Grapevine Historical Society - Preserving Grapevine and Texas History Welcome to the Grapevine Historical Society Texas Independence Day Celebration Saturday March 1 1030 AM Celebrating the Witness Tree. Witness to a Community At the northwest corner of Scribner and West Wall Streets stands a Post Oak so venerable that it was standing in 1836 when Texas declared its Independence from Mexico. It was standing when four pioneer Grapevine families the Dooleys the Fosters the Leonards and the Mahans laid out their homesteads around it as part of the original Peters Colony. Saturday the Grapevine Historical Society dedicates a marker acknowledging the Grapevine Witness Tree growing on this spot for over 200 years.
