This meeting led to the formation of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, with forty men becoming charter members by February 1964. The first parade participation occurred on March 15, 1964.
The group initially met in various locations around Old Bridge, including clubs and restaurants. Over time, they pursued acquiring a property to establish their own clubhouse. In September 1966, they purchased a 5.4-acre site on Oak Street, marking a significant milestone in their history.

It is also a nonprofit nonsectarian and nonpolitical organization. We are a member only organization and supports our local community and people who are in need of assistance. The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh was started in 1964 by a group of 45 men in Old Bridge NJ who petitioned Jackie Gleason for the use of the name and he graciously agreed.
