The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to providing education, certification, and leadership development for administrative professionals. Originally formed in 1942 as the National Secretaries Association, the organization underwent name changes, becoming Professional Secretaries International in 1982 before adopting its current name in 1998.
Purpose and Activities
IAAP focuses on enhancing the skills and knowledge of office and administrative personnel by offering resources and networking opportunities. The organization supports individuals in administrative roles to connect, learn, and excel in their careers.
Certification Programs
IAAP is known for its certification programs. In 1951, it introduced the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) exam, which later evolved into the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) exam. The CAP credential validates the skills of administrative professionals and confirms their commitment to lifelong learning. Beyond the CAP, IAAP offers specialty certificate courses in Technology Applications (TA), Organizational Management (OM), and Project Management (PM).
Events and Publications
IAAP hosts various educational events and publishes a magazine, Office Pro, to inform and engage its members. The organization also supports a podcast titled Beyond the Desk: Admin Advocates, which provides practical insights and advice for administrative professionals at all career stages.
IAAP Foundation
The IAAP Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable entity, partners with IAAP to support innovative research, education, and professional development opportunities for office and administrative professionals. This foundation is dedicated to investing in the success of administrative professionals through various initiatives.
