PROMOTE AGRICULTURE IN PENNSYLVANIA

PennAg Industries Association

The PennAg Industries Association is a prominent nonprofit trade organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the agricultural sector in the state of Pennsylvania. Originally known as the Pennsylvania Millers' and Feed Dealers' Association, the organization underwent a name change in 1972 to reflect its broadened scope and mission.

History

PennAg Industries Association has its roots deeply embedded in Pennsylvania's agricultural history, with a legacy spanning nearly 150 years. Over this period, the association has evolved to encompass a wide range of agricultural sectors, including grain milling, feed manufacturing, aquaculture, and equine industries.

Purpose and Activities

The association's primary goal is to encourage and protect the trade and business of flour, feed, and grain milling by fostering close relationships among Pennsylvania's millers and promoting their interests through legislative and public advocacy. PennAg has developed seven councils, each focusing on a specific aspect of Pennsylvania's agricultural landscape:

  • Agronomic Products & Seed Council: Supports the growth of crops such as corn, soybeans, winter wheat, and oats.
  • Aquaculture Council: Represents Pennsylvania's trout production, which ranks third nationally.
  • Feed, Grain and Allied Industries Council: Oversees an industry with significant economic impact, including feed mills that contribute billions to the state's economy.
  • Horse Council: Advocates for Pennsylvania’s substantial horse industry, which is a major economic driver.
  • Manure Hauler & Applicator Council: Addresses environmental aspects related to livestock waste management.
  • Poultry Council: Promotes poultry production, which has become a leading agricultural industry in Pennsylvania.
  • Swine Council: Supports the state's pork production sector.
Impact

PennAg plays a crucial role in shaping agricultural policies and practices by actively engaging with government, public, and media affairs. The organization provides ongoing support to agribusinesses of all sizes, facilitating their participation in the food chain and contributing to the growth and prosperity of Pennsylvania's agricultural sector. Through events, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts, PennAg continues to strengthen its position as a leading voice in Pennsylvania's agribusiness community.
