(SOHO) provides mentoring and after school training for at risk youth to prevent delinquency and to promote success in school.SOHO is a creative mentoring organization that provides youth in need with social, academic and creative enrichment by building one-to-one relationships with trained, committed adult mentors and by engaging students in activities such as innovative visual arts, carpentry and social skills instruction and programming that supports science, technology, engineering and math skills development. Volunteer mentors are active professionals who are recruited, and trained by SOHO to provide on-going encouragement to participating youth in their social skills development and academic learning. SOHO Program Managers are trained in responsive classroom techniques.SOHO’s award-winning programming uniquely includes 34 weeks of visual arts and carpentry instruction so as to develop creative thinking skills. SOHO’s after school programs reinforce science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills learning. Mentors and students attend a two-day camping trip to launch the initial mentor and training program. SOHO students also participate in a variety of community service and cultural events year-round with their mentor to provide greater exposure to learning and social skills development. Students and their mentors use their arts and carpentry skills to renovate each student’s room, thus providing a ‘space of her/his own’. SOHO communicates with families regularly to encourage involvement. Academic success is recognized during the year-end celebration attended by students, mentors, parents, teachers and local leaders..

Mission
SOHO's mission revolves around providing preteen girls with one-on-one mentorship through volunteer adult female mentors. This mentorship model is designed to enhance social, emotional, academic, and creative enrichment among its participants. By combining creative arts, STEM projects, field trips, and life skills lessons, SOHO equips girls with the necessary skills to grow into strong, independent, and compassionate individuals.
Programs
