🐾 Today on #NationalRescueDogDay, we’re celebrating Martha, a brave little pup who was rescued by NYC Second Chance Rescue. Martha was born with a condition called PDA (patent ductus arteriosus), an abnormal connection between two major blood vessels near the heart. She would need surgery to ensure her survival. 🫀 While this condition can typically be fixed with a minimally invasive procedure, Martha was too tiny for that option. So our incredible surgical team stepped in and performed open chest surgery (a lateral thoracotomy) to tie off the PDA and give her heart the chance to work properly. ❤️‍🩹 Thanks to generous support from our our #AMCtotheRescue Fund and KodiakCare, both of which provided charitable funding for this procedure, Martha received the care she needed and she’s now back to her happy, bouncy self! 💖 📸 Martha is held by her surgeon Dr. Whitney Phipps, Specialist in Surgery at AMC.
