We had a blast popping bubbles with a few of the board members from @seventhdistrictfoundation last week during our CARExDESIGN open house! The Seventh District Foundation is a philanthropic organization based in Manhattan, New York, with a mission to support underprivileged children through programs that provide clothing, food, medical care, education, and cultural enrichment. With a legacy spanning over a century, the Foundation has been dedicated to aiding various charitable groups, focusing on arts, culture, education, medical research, healthcare, and human services. Annually, it contributes over $200,000 to support these causes, aiming to uplift communities and create a better tomorrow #adaptivedesign #accessibility #nonprofit (fb)

No one leaves @adaptivedesigninc empty handed! Especially our board member, Laura, who is an active teacher for the visually impaired. Stay tuned for updates from Laura’s experience introducing tactile communication cards to her client. Meet Laura! As part of our meet the #boardofdirectors series. Laura Taub is a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI). She teaches children with multiple disabilities including visual impairment and blindness, cognitive and developmental conditions, and dual sensory impairment. She also has extensive experience working with students with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). Since 2005, she has been a TVI in both Westchester and New York City, focusing on early intervention, as well as working with children from preschool through high school. Collaborating with school teams, she provides an accessible learning environment, complete with materials and adaptive instruction, needed to best serve her students. Indeed, one of her passions is the development of materials so students can learn curriculum beside their peers. Laura aims for children and their families to develop an understanding of the power of self-advocacy. Prior to teaching, Laura was a Licensing Manager for the Itsy-Bitsy Entertainment Company, partnering with Hasbro and other specialty toy companies to create toys and games based on the classic television show Teletubbies. Years later, she now lends her expertise to the Scarsdale High School Entrepreneurship class where she educates students about the needs of children with visual impairments. She hopes that future entrepreneurs will realize the importance of developing needs-based toys and other functional products. Laura holds a master’s degree in Blindness and Visual Impairment from Teachers’ College Columbia University. She currently serves as an Advisor for the New York Deaf Blind Collaborative and is a member of the New York City Department of Education CVI Cohort. #tvi #tangibles #tactilecommunication #tactilecards #storytime #wheelsonthebus #workshop #DIY (fb)
