Meet Dougie! Dougie is a community cat living in Stone Mountain Village. In 2024, she was trapped during a TNR effort, found to be pregnant, and later had five healthy kittens! Dougie was then spayed, vaccinated, and released, with all five kittens being adopted out into loving homes by AARF. Dougie's ear tip signifies that she has been a part of a TNR program - letting any observer know that she has already been spayed and does not need to be trapped again. Ear tips do not harm cats. They are done under anesthesia by a veterinarian during the spay/neuter surgery. Ear tips are the universal symbol of a successful TNR effort, and are more recognizable and effective than alternatives like ear notches or belly tattoos. If Dougie had never been spayed, she could have had over 200 kittens in her lifetime. Instead, thanks to AARF's TNR program, her five kittens were saved from a life on the street and Dougie now lives a peaceful life without the stress of mating and having kittens.
