CLBC Releases Statement on Disastrous Congressional Republican Tax Bill (fb)

The brutal assault of a young Black student in her middle school classroom in Colton, CA is sickening. Physical violence against any student, on any campus, is unacceptable and demands immediate action. Our schools should be safe havens for students to learn and express themselves. This incident clearly shows an unforgivable failure by school leadership to protect this child. The California Legislative Black Caucus demands a full investigation into what transpired and swift accountability for those responsible, particularly the adults with whom their care is entrusted. All students, especially our young Black girls, deserve to be safe, valued, and protected while they are on our school campuses. We thank our colleagues Senator Eloise Reyes and Assemblymembers Robert Garcia and James Ramos for their partnership in monitoring this developing issue. (fb)

Main navigation Welcome to the CaliforniaLegislative Black Caucus The CLBC was formed in 1967 when AfricanAmerican members of the California Legislature under the leadership of Senator Mervyn Dymally joined together to address the concerns of AfricanAmericans and other citizens of color. The members believed that a caucus representing concerns of the African American community would provide political influence and visibility far beyond their numbers. Today there are 12 members of the California Legislative Black Caucus.
