Luminario Ballet
Luminario Ballet is a contemporary ballet company also presenting classic modern dance repertory and aerial dance. Luminario Ballet, started in December 2008, was created to present national/international quality repertory dance concerts in Los Angeles and beyond, representing the vitality, diversity, and excellence of Los Angeles and Southern California dance nationally and worldwide.To this end, each season of our 5 repertory seasons, Luminario Ballet has stretched to present great choreographers from California (San Francisco Ballet's Michael Smuin, Los Angeles's Lewitzky Dance, Josie Walsh), international choreographers located in LA (Stefan Wenta from Poland, Alexandre Magno from Brazil) to internationally acclaimed choreographers from around the world (Debra Lynne Brown, Montreal, choreographer of 13 Cirque du Soleil shows worldwide). Each year Luminario Ballet also presents groundbreaking choreography in the new exciting field of aerial dance, presenting new works from award winning and World Dance Award nominated artistic director Judith FLEX Helle, and many other up and coming aerial dace choreographers.Luminario Ballet intends to represent the athleticism, energy, and excellence in dance to mirror the unmatched quality of the other arts in Los Angeles, such as the Getty, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the film/TV industry. To that end, Luminario Ballet collaborates regularly with various arts organizations such as the LA Philharmonic and others.Luminario Ballet also intends to include the wider public, especially students in seeing and understanding dance as a regular part of their lives. To do that, Luminario Ballet is dedicated to making sure to present locally in areas where a general audience has access, as well as maintaining an affordable ticket prices, and performing a certain amount of free or ticketless shows per year.Luminario Ballet wants great dance and aerial dance to be understandable and accessible to audiences, and strives to present works which are in addition to highly technical and artistic, entertaining as an art form for all.
