The Coutts Memorial Museum of Art Inc is a nonprofit organization located in El Dorado, Kansas. It was established in 1970 by Warren Hall Coutts Jr., an attorney from El Dorado, as a memorial to his son, Warren Hall "Bud" Coutts III, who tragically died in a plane crash in 1965[1][4].
History
The museum is housed in the historic building that once served as the Butler State Bank, completed in 1917. Before its conversion to a museum, the building was used as a law office by Warren Hall Coutts Jr. after he acquired it in 1964. Following his son's passing, Coutts dedicated the space to showcasing art and preserving cultural heritage[1].
Art Collection
The museum's collection contains over 1,500 pieces of art, encompassing works by renowned artists such as Thomas Hart Benton, Picasso, Degas, and Frederic Remington. The collection also includes significant works from Russia, China, France, Holland, England, and South America.
