40 to 55% of all US adults read on a basic or below basic level; in Newton County alone 1 of 3 students in the 2006 high school class left school without a diploma. 85% of juvenile offenders are identified as having low literacy skills and/or are high school dropouts. Children who enter school with highly developed pre-literacy markers grasp reading concepts readily and channel the skill into overall scholastic success.
