Memorial Day, please take time to honor the memory of those brave Service men and women who lost their lives while defending our country. At 3:00 PM, all Americans are asked to take a pause to remember those who have died in military service to our country, this is known as the National Moment of Remembrance. (fb)

The BPSOF remembers Sergeant John F. Montague who passed away on May 24, 1929. Sergeant Montague was ordered to take a strength test per part of the civil service examination for promotion. Sergeant Montague collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he passed away. Sergeant Montague complained before his death that the test caused something to “snap” in his back. Two other officers were admitted to the Faulkner Hospital after taking the test suffering from strain caused by the test, with one Officer in critical condition. Sergeant Montague had served with the Boston Police Department for more than 24 years, his name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House.
