#GranteeSpotlight: A Florida-based nonprofit is transforming local agriculture to create greater food security and protect the environment. With aquaponics—a sustainable farming method merging aquaculture with hydroponics—Marine Education Initiative cultivates highly nutritious food within and for their community. The technique dramatically reduces land and water consumption compared to traditional soil-based agriculture and mitigates the environmental burden of transporting food over long distances. By nurturing produce locally, the initiative not only guarantees regular food deliveries to soup kitchens, food banks, and their neighbors that need it most, but also fosters community engagement and education about Florida's diverse ecosystems and its conservation.
