This Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to pause, take a deep breath, and try this short meditation to help reduce stress, calm anxiety, and increase mental focus. 🌬️ Beth Sandweiss, a Mind Body Therapist in MSK's Integrative Medicine services, shares this meditation strategy: While watching this guided animation, inhale through your nose for four seconds then exhale for eight seconds through your mouth, with pursed lips (like you're blowing out a candle). The longer exhalation initiates parasympathetic relaxation response, which can be helpful for managing anxiety. You can start with one minute and add more time as you feel comfortable with the exercise, says Beth. To modify, shorten the inhalation time to two seconds and exhalation time to four seconds. 💙 Share this with someone who might need a breathing break.
