📚 The Women Who Served—And the Horses Who Help Them Heal I just finished The Women by Kristin Hannah… and I can’t stop thinking about it. This book shook me. I was so mad—at the parents in the story who refused to believe their daughter had PTSD after serving as a hospital nurse on the front lines of Vietnam. They lied to their friends, denied her trauma, and dismissed the idea that women could be broken by war. Because, after all, “only men fight in wars,” right? Wrong. Women were in Vietnam. They served. They sacrificed. They came home carrying wounds that no one wanted to see. When I asked Trinity’s founder, Bill Mattson, about his time during Vietnam, he told me he went through basic training with just as many women as men. That stopped me in my tracks. You don’t hear that. But it’s true. Women served. Women still serve. And in the story, what finally helps this young veteran begin to heal isn’t numbing the pain with alcohol. It isn’t trying to push the trauma down and pretend she’s fine. It’s horses. I read that and thought—Kristin, girl… you got it right. Because at Trinity, we witness that same miracle every day. Horses helping people pick up the pieces. Horses grounding survivors in something real. Horses accepting them, exactly as they are. It’s not science. It’s sacred. It’s not clinical. It’s connection.
