Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation
The Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation (EP-ACT) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting clean transportation options in Pennsylvania. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EP-ACT is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Cities program, working across 34 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania.
History and Mission
EP-ACT was founded in January 1997 and officially registered as a tax-exempt corporation in May 2006. The alliance's mission is to reduce petroleum use in the transportation sector by fostering the transition to alternative fuels, vehicles, and technologies. This includes promoting environmental stewardship, economic development, and energy security throughout the region.
Activities and Achievements
EP-ACT collaborates with various stakeholders, including vehicle fleets, fuel providers, community leaders, and government entities. Under the leadership of its Executive Director, Tony Bandiero, the organization has successfully procured more than $30 million in grant funding and secured over $200 million in matching funds from public and private sources. One of its significant achievements includes the deployment of over 1,000 alternatively fueled vehicles, as well as the establishment of 20 gaseous fuel stations and more than 100 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installations across Pennsylvania.
Projects and Initiatives
EP-ACT's initiatives focus on energy reduction and environmental sustainability, including projects like the Initiative for Resiliency in Energy through Vehicles (iREV), Pennsylvania Partnership for Promoting Natural Gas Vehicles, and the East Coast Commercial Zero-Emissions Vehicle Corridor Planning Partnership. Additionally, EP-ACT has been involved in Pennsylvania's Ethanol Corridor Project, which has surpassed one million gallons of ethanol used.
Financial Overview
As a nonprofit, EP-ACT's financial activities are primarily driven by contributions and program services. While specific financial details vary by year, contributions typically form the majority of their revenue. The organization maintains a strong asset base and minimal liabilities, ensuring financial stability for its ongoing initiatives.
Classification
EP-ACT is categorized under the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) for environmental quality, protection, and beautification, as well as energy resources conservation and development. Donations to the organization are tax-deductible.
