Congratulations to our most recent recipient of the Calvary Commitment Award, Willie Mitchell. Willie is deeply respected and admired by his Calvary colleagues for more than 31 years, and appreciates and empathizes with Calvary families because of his own experience. “I can relate to what they’re going through because of my father,” he explains, emphasizing how important it is for us to speak to and have compassion for everyone we encounter at Calvary. His dad passed away from cancer shortly after he retired. “I decided then I wanted to learn more about the disease and end-of-life care; that’s why I started working here.” Bronx-born and raised, Wille is all about family, his wife and three children, plus his Calvary family – “My co-workers, the patients, and their families.” Willie describes Calvary as a beautiful home and says Calvary makes him a better man every day. “I’m still learning,” he said while offering this advice to everyone: “Wake up every day to do your best and keep striving.” (fb)

Last year, Cabrini Health Foundation released a report on the state of the nursing workforce in New York; this year, they’re taking action on some of the issues outlined in the report through their new Nursing Initiative! Calvary is proud to be one of 13 hospitals across New York receiving grants from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation as part of this initiative. With a $5M grant over five years, Calvary will pursue accreditation under the American Nurses Association Pathway to Excellence Program.
