Access to information is a fundamental human right in our information age. Without the ability to read print, a person cannot access information in a meaningful and useful manner. The DAISY Consortium works toward worldwide availability of publications in DAISY format, wherever print or electronic content is produced. More than a traditional audio book, a DAISY book allows people with print disabilities to use books the way others do, by flipping through pages, scanning chapter headings, or leaving bookmarks. The Consortium pays special attention to and encourages the use of the DAISY standards in developing countries. Our members are libraries, publishers, technology designers and manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies who are working toward the ideal of universal access to information regardless of ability. The DAISY Consortium believes that its standards and implementation strategies will also benefit the wider community.
