19712025 Celebrating 54 Years Promoting the Health of People and Communities KUNM Lets Talk New Mexico call in showLets talk nuclear waste production and storage Southwest Research and Information Center SRIC was founded in 1971 for the purpose of providing information to the public on the effects of energy development and resource exploitation on the people and their cultures lands water and air of New Mexico and the Southwest. SRICs purpose including the focus on issues affecting the Southwest has remained essentially unchanged although it now has a successful record in affecting issues of national and even international importance such as nuclear waste management and uranium mining reclamation. SRIC also has helped empower dozens of local community groups so that they effectively participate in government and corporate decisions that affect them. Throughout its history SRIC has strived to play a unique role among nonprofit publicinterest organizations active in New Mexico and the Southwest.
