"The most consistently energetic of the several veteran artist cooperatives that have migrated to Chelsea" - David Cohen Contemporary Art Gallery in Chelsea | Artist-run since 1969 Open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11 AM – 6 PM Through innovative programming that brings art and the community together, FIRST STREET GALLERY seeks to nurture, educate, inspire and challenge artists everywhere. Through community outreach initiatives, the Gallery provides opportunities for member and nonmember visual artists to exhibit their work and engage with the public and others who can assist them in their artistic and professional careers. As an artist-run nonprofit, the Gallery believes that artists are best qualified to direct every phase of their creative work. Focussing on emerging and mid-career artists of all backgrounds who do not have commercial gallery representation, the Gallery has been launching and nurturing artists' careers - over 3,000 - since it opened its doors in 1969.
