Yesterday evening at approximately 10:40PM Bethel Fire & EMS and the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to a possible structure fire on Andrew St downtown. First arriving police and the Bethel Medic confirmed a working structure fire in the rear of a multifamily home. Bethel’s Engine 6 responded first and arrived on scene, getting water quickly on the main body of fire. Fortunately all occupants were out of the structure at the time of the FD’s arrival. Additional units from Bethel and Stony Hill (Squad 5, Truck 1, Truck 4, Engine 3, and Rescue 2, Bethel and Stony Hill ambulances, Bethel medics) arrived on scene to provide resources and manpower to perform overhaul (the process of opening walls and ceiling to confirm total extinguishment). Our partnering mutual aid neighbors also came to our assistance, including Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company for providing RIT and an ambulance for town coverage, Danbury Volunteer Fire Battalion 19, INC. for their light and air truck along with Stony Hill station coverage, and Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company #1 and botsford_fire_rescue provided station coverage at South St. Bethel Public Safety Dispatch was also crucial to operations. The Red Cross was on site to assist families affected by the fire. The fire remains under investigation with the Bethel Fire Marshal’s office. Like any fire that occurs, we use these incidents as a good reminder to review your home fire safety plan, check your smoke detectors, and learn more about fire safety.
