The Schenectada Chapter was formally organized on October 19, 1911, at the home of the first Regent, Mrs. Harriet Leonard Colburn. The chapter's founding occurred with significant support from the New York State Regent, Mrs. Joseph Wood, and the New York State Vice Regent, Mrs. Joseph King. Initially, the chapter consisted of a substantial number of founding members, making it one of the largest forming chapters in New York State history at the time.

The chapter is actively involved in various community projects. These include participating in Veterans' Day celebrations, Memorial Day observances, and charity donations. They also hold genealogy workshops in collaboration with other historical societies, such as the Sons of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. Additionally, they commemorate significant historical battles, including the Battles of Saratoga.
