Since 1997, Forests for Monarchs, a program of La Cruz Habitat Protection Project, has helped restore the forest in high need areas and communities around the Monarch Biosphere Reserve and Highland Lakes Watershed Region of Michoacán, Mexico. Forests for Monarchs is dedicated to protecting the monarch butterfly and other endemic species by reforesting the land surrounding the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, and to promote sustainable forest management among the local landowners for their economic benefit and forest conservation.
