Rain or shine, Gorilla Doctors routinely monitors the health of our wild patients. Just yesterday, Dr. Adrien checked on the 20 members of Kwitonda group in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. Amidst the heavy rains, he hiked through the forest with trackers for almost 2 hours until they located the group huddled together. Meet the Vets: Nelson Bukamba ✨ Dr. Nelson is a veterinarian with a passion for wildlife conservation. He has volunteered and worked with several conservation organizations focusing both on climate change mitigation and wildlife conservation. He worked as an intern with Gorilla Doctors before his graduation as a veterinarian from Makerere University. Dr. Nelson joined the Gorilla Doctors team as part of the EpiCenter for Emerging Infectious Disease Intelligence (EEIDI) project, a collaboration with the UC Davis One Health Institute to study the initial stages of zoonotic disease emergence in southwest Uganda. In July 2024, Dr. Nelson joined the Uganda team as a full-time field veterinarian. (fb)
