Camp High Hopes

Overview

Camp High Hopes is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children, teens, and adults with disabilities, special needs, and chronic illnesses. Established in 2004, it offers fun, safe, and adaptive therapeutic recreational experiences throughout the year. The camp is situated on a 90-acre site near Sioux City, Iowa, and is accredited by the American Camp Association.

Mission

The mission of Camp High Hopes is to provide a fun, safe, and adaptive recreational experience for individuals with disabilities. The organization focuses on removing barriers and fostering physical, social, and emotional growth while ensuring safety and promoting independence.

Programs and Activities

Camp High Hopes offers a diverse range of programs tailored to suit each camper's needs and preferences. Activities include archery, canoeing, and outdoor education, among others. The camp's adaptive equipment, low staff-to-camper ratio, and personalized attention ensure that every individual can fully participate in chosen activities.

Facilities and Development

The camp features modern, fully accessible facilities such as camper cabins, a boat dock, and an archery range. An adaptive Rec Center is also planned. The development of these facilities has been supported by several capital campaigns, including "Where Smiles Happen" (2010), "S'more Smiles" (2014), and "Hopes and Smiles" (2020-present).

Community Impact

Camp High Hopes attracts campers from several Midwest states and has welcomed over 500 campers annually. It has created more than one million smiles and celebrates stories of personal growth and community building. The organization emphasizes inclusivity, empathy, respect, and fun in all its endeavors.

Volunteer and Support Opportunities

The camp relies on volunteers who assist with camper activities and participate in landscaping, building projects, and special events like the annual Rib Fest and Haunted Lodge Party. Supporters can also contribute through donations and planned giving, which are crucial for sustaining its programs and ensuring long-term financial stability.

Recognition and Events
