The miniscule and inadequate amount of aid that Israeli authorities are now allowing into the Gaza Strip is a smokescreen to make it appear that the siege is over. While the war and blockade continue to wreak havoc on Palestinians’ health and leave them in desperate need of medical care and food, water, and other necessities, at least 20 medical facilities in Gaza have been damaged or forced partially or completely out of service in the past week alone amid increasing Israeli military operations, intensified airstrikes, and widespread evacuation orders. Israeli authorities must stop the deliberate asphyxiation of Palestinians in Gaza and the annihilation of their health care system—actions that are underpinning their campaign of ethnic cleansing. Pascale Coissard, MSF emergency coordinator in Khan Younis, central Gaza: “The Israeli authorities’ decision to allow a ridiculously inadequate amount of aid into Gaza after months of an air-tight siege signals their intention to avoid the accusation of starving people in Gaza, while in fact keeping them barely surviving. This plan is a way to instrumentalize aid, making it a tool to further Israeli forces’ military objectives." In the burns unit at MSF’s hospital in Atmeh, in northwest Syria near the Turkish border, our staff are using 3D technology to improve care for burn patients. The program was launched in March 2025 with the support of the MSF foundation. 3D-printed compressive masks, which enhance patients' movement and recovery, are used to treat scarring and swelling. Burn injuries from unsafe heating methods are common in this region as people displaced by years of war continue to live in camps without basic heating and electricity. In 2024 alone, our staff treated more than 8,000 burn-related emergency cases. Our hospital in Atmeh is the only specialized facility in the region and provides surgical and rehabilitative services.
