Our US Congressional Staff delegation spent their fourth day in Japan at the Osaka World Expo. As they boarded the Tokaido Shinkansen, they recalled their visit to the JR Central’s bullet train General Control Center this Monday. At the Expo, the group visited the USA Pavilion and received a special tour at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion to experience Osaka’s vision for the future of health. They also visited the NATUREVERSE Pavilion by Pasona, a multinational staffing services company committed to improving human wellbeing and regional revitalization, where they watched a new anime short featuring #OsamuTezuka's #AstroBoy and #BlackJack and a beating heart created by iPS cells (induced pluripotent stem cells). To cap off their exciting day, the delegation enjoyed Osaka’s specialties kushiyaki and takoyaki at dinner in Dotonbori with the USA Pavilion’s Youth Ambassadors and the USA Consulate staff. (fb)

On Day 3, our US Congressional Staff delegation left Tokyo to visit the US naval base in Yokosuka, where they were given a tour of the USS John Finn and met with the officers and sailors on the ship to discuss their mission and challenges. The group then visited the National Defense Academy (NDA) of Japan, where they joined a group of cadets for lunch at the cafeteria and learned about the academies curriculum and international exchange programs. They were also welcomed by Dr. Fumiaki Kubo (president of NDA) and Professor Kamiya Matake, who spoke on the accelerating shifts in Japan’s security policy after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and on the need for the US-Japan alliance to maintain a rules-based international order. The day concluded with a stop in #Kamakura to learn about Japanese religion during a visit to #KotokuIn and the #Daibutsu, as well as to#TsurugaokaHachimangu The group is headed off to Osaka for the final two days of their program.
