Barnabas Ministries Africa and New Life Homes, Inc.
It is the mission of New Life Homes (NLH) to rescue orphans and vulnerable children from abandonment, neglect, and the effects of AIDS through the maintenance of homes/rescue centers and medical care facilities. We aim to meet their holistic (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) needs; providing a loving foundation for the children to effective members of their communities. New Life Homes has now established five children's homes/rescue centers in Kenya in: Nairobi, Nyeri, Kericho, Kisumu, Mombasa, and Nakuru. A dedicated team of over 160 staff members together with a capable team of volunteers, run the programs that currently care for approximately 161 children. The satellite Homes link our main Children's Home in Nairobi with upcountry hospitals, medical centers, police stations and "Good Samaritans". This network of Homes provide a "breathing space" for abandoned babies in critical condition who need to be transferred to the main Home and Medical Center at Nairobi for further medical care and protection. New Life Homes gives priority admission to HIV positive babies. Approximately 20% of New Life's babies are HIV positive at admittance. All of our HIV positive babies are cared for at our main Children's Home in Nairobi where we have an on-site medical facility. Volunteer doctors and HIV/AIDS specialists visit our children daily and provide top-quality care. New Life has witnessed and recorded a 75% sero-conversion rate in our babies, meaning that they change from HIV positive to HIV negative status by the time they are two years old. New Life Homes has been operating in Kenya since 1994. It was set up in response to the great suffering experienced by children, often living in appalling conditions. In many cases children were receiving little care and attention within the family and in many instances experiencing total abandonment. Babies are received into the Homes from birth to three months old. As the children gain health and grow, arrangements are made for them to be transferred for care, parenting, and adoption. Our mission is to see each of our children placed in families for fostering or adoption. New Life Homes envisions expanding the ministry from five to eight Children's Homes - one in each province of Kenya so that no baby will be abandoned in hospitals and left to die alone.
