Every semester, CYA students with a passion for history, archaeology, or classics have the unique opportunity to volunteer at the Blegen Library—one of the world’s premier research libraries for classical studies—housed at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Students have the opportunity to engage directly with rare collections, assist in organizing materials, and gain firsthand experience in library science. We’re proud to see our students engaging with the rich intellectual history of Athens while contributing to an institution that has shaped classical studies for over a century. What happens when trauma is translated into texture, light, and space? For CYA students in Prof. Koukouna's Trauma and the Remaking of the Self course, Athens’ Former Public Tobacco Factory recently became an exploration of this question, where they immersed themselves in an exhibition exploring the shared trauma of Cyprus. It was a confrontation of how memory, loss, and resilience materialized beyond the written word and "became a shared ground for reflection, understanding, and dialogue—" Prof. Koukouna. (fb)
