Head for the Cure

Head for the Cure is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for brain cancer research and supporting the brain tumor community. Founded in 2007, the organization is named after its inspiration, Chris Anthony, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme in 2000. Following Chris's passing, his brother Matt Anthony took on the challenge to continue the fight against brain cancer in his honor.

Mission

The mission of Head for the Cure is to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers, and other supporters. This is achieved through three strategic pillars:

• Building Awareness: Raising awareness of brain cancer, which is not widely known and requires advancements in treatments.
• Raising Funds: Organizing fundraising events, such as 5K runs and walks, and other campaigns to support clinical research and patient programs.
• Igniting Hope: Providing emotional and practical support to those affected by brain tumors.

Activities

Head for the Cure hosts numerous 5K run/walk events across the U.S., which serve as a primary source of fundraising. The organization also partners with local brain tumor clinics and advocacy organizations to support their research and programs. Its primary national beneficiary is the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative (BTTC), an alliance of leading brain tumor centers collaborating on clinical trials.

In addition to fundraising events, Head for the Cure offers programs like Brains for the Cure, an online navigator providing resources, advice, and support to patients and caregivers navigating a brain tumor diagnosis.

Impact

As of recent years, Head for the Cure has raised over $25 million to support brain cancer research and support initiatives. The organization focuses on both research and support programs, aiming to advance treatments for brain cancer while providing immediate support to patients and caregivers.
