As the daughter of a Vietnam War Army veteran, Katelyn has been determined to pay it forward and have her career focused on military veterans. As senior talent advisor at Kellanova, she’s done just that. Her recruitment efforts focus on the veteran population, ensuring to help veterans transitioning to civilian life. Katelyn’s father was drafted days after his high school graduation in 1971. He told her stories of his time serving and expressed that this was a time when service members faced jeers, not cheers, from fellow citizens. Recalling a time when he changed out of uniform to avoid scrutiny, Katelyn realized she couldn’t take her father’s pain away but that she would do everything possible to help other veterans. Through K Vets & Supporters, one of 10 business employee resource groups at Kellanova, Katelyn and her colleagues further the Operation Homefront mission by packing meal kits and school supplies for Holiday Meals for Military® and Back-to-School Brigade® events. In 2024, Kellanova included the Operation Homefront logo on special packaging for Town House® crackers, raising national awareness about the mission of helping military families overcome short-term difficulties so they don’t become long-term hardships. We appreciate stories like Katelyn’s father and use them to reflect on a time when service members didn’t receive the gratitude they deserved. Today, because of partners like Kellanova, we’re able to give back to military families and ensure they have the support needed.
