Sister Helen Prejean
Let's end the death penalty! I'm the author of Dead Man Walking. Read the book (graphic version out in 2025), see the movie and the opera, and take action! Sister Helen Prejean is known around the world for her tireless work against the death penalty and her bestselling book Dead Man Walking. The Ministry Against the Death Penalty fosters creative and reflective programs that awaken hearts and minds and inspire social change. We believe:
- in the dignity and rights of all persons and recognize that government-sanctioned killing and the practice of torture is a violation of those rights and a denial of human dignity;
- that the criminal justice system in the United States disproportionately affects poor people and people of color;
- that prison reform and the abolition of capital punishment will support necessary systemic change.
We are committed to promoting compassionate alternatives to the death penalty, including restorative justice and funding for victims’ services.

Please join me in supporting the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s letter-writing campaign requesting Governor Landry to stop executions in Louisiana. Our governor has said he wants to empty death row and has proposed nitrogen gassing and the electric chair as options. You can sign on to the letter here: (fb)
