Cincinnati Aviation Heritage Society

The Cincinnati Aviation Heritage Society is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and honoring the legacy of aviation in Cincinnati. Its mission involves contributing to the well-being of the aviation community through education, creativity, and collaboration, focusing on the history of aviation in the region.

History and Purpose

Established to highlight Cincinnati's rich aviation history, the organization serves as a repository for local aviation memorabilia and artifacts. It aims to educate the public about the evolution of flight and its impact on the community. The society's collection includes a variety of aircraft and aviation-related items from airports within a 100-mile radius of Cincinnati.

Museum and Activities

The society operates a museum, although it is currently closed. The museum was forced to store its collection due to the closure of the Lunken Terminal in March 2022. Despite the challenges, the society continues to seek volunteer support to maintain its collection and plan for the future. It encourages membership and involvement from the community to help in areas such as accounting, nonprofit law, and building relationships.

Challenges and Losses

In recent years, the society has faced significant challenges, including the loss of key founding members. Co-founders Emil Dansker, M. Charles Pyles, and researcher Fred Brinkmiller have passed away, leaving a void in the organization's leadership and expertise.

Mission and Funding

The society's mission is to foster collaboration and creativity within the aviation community by promoting aviation history. It relies on donations and community support to continue its work. Memberships and financial contributions are crucial for the society's existence and future plans.

Future Outlook

Despite current challenges, the Cincinnati Aviation Heritage Society remains committed to its mission. It looks forward to reopening and continuing its role in preserving Cincinnati's aviation heritage. The society continues to seek new members and expertise to help plan its future activities.

Home Thanks For Stopping By Lunken Terminal and consequently the museum has been closed since March 9th 2022. In the interim at this time we have no information on the reopening of the terminal. Watch the website for updated information. For this reason Lunken Terminal has been closed to the public and the museum was forced to store everything.
