Metro World Child

Metro World Child is a global, faith-based nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City. It was founded by Bill Wilson in 1980 under the name Metro Ministries before adopting its current name. The organization is dedicated to serving underprivileged inner-city children around the world.

History

Since its inception, Metro World Child has pioneered the concept of Sidewalk Urban Outreach, which has been replicated by thousands of people across the globe whom they have trained. This innovative approach focuses on reaching children and families in urban environments.

Mission and Programs

Metro World Child's mission is to share the Gospel, demonstrate God's love, and meet the needs of inner-city children. The organization aims to break the cycle of poverty by providing hope and empowering children to become future leaders. Their programs include:

  • Sidewalk Sunday School: Utilizing mobile trucks to offer educational and religious services in urban areas.
  • Child Sponsorship: A program designed to support individual children, providing them with a connection to the organization and its resources.
  • Weekly Outreach: Metro World Child picks up over 1,000 children in school buses each Saturday in New York City and visits families throughout the week to provide support and guidance.

Metro World Child reaches over 21,000 children in New York City and an additional 225,000 globally across 13 countries.

Organizational Structure and Operations

Metro World Child operates with a commitment to transparency and accountability. However, like many nonprofit organizations, it faces challenges in maintaining detailed financial reporting standards.

Metro World Child Foundation Inc. has received a 3-star rating on Charity Navigator, indicating a need for further financial transparency and accountability measures.

Impact

The organization's unique approach to urban outreach has made it a significant player in the lives of thousands of children. Its programs not only provide religious education but also focus on meeting physical and emotional needs, fostering a supportive community for those it serves.

Metro World Child continues to expand its reach and services, working to empower the next generation of leaders and provide hope to those in need.
