Yesterday, the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) held a crucial press conference addressing the rise in measles cases across the U.S. and underscoring the importance of vaccinations in preventing outbreaks. The event opened with remarks from our very own President and CEO, Vernette Townsend, followed by insights from DPH Commissioner Manisha Juthani. In a powerful demonstration of leadership, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz received the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine on-site to emphasize the importance of staying up to date on immunizations. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious health complications, but vaccination remains our best defense. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97% effective at preventing measles, protecting not only individuals but also the most vulnerable members of our community, including infants and those with weakened immune systems. Residents are encouraged to check their vaccination status and consult healthcare providers to ensure they are fully protected.
