There are times in our outpatient clinic in Gatineau where a patient situation warrants getting all the nurses involved. Such was the case with a woman who came to us last week. She was 34 years old and this was her first prenatal visit for a second pregnancy. By her dates, she should have been 18 weeks’ gestation (4 ½ months). But, I had my doubts when I looked at the size of her abdomen. Sure enough, when I checked her with the wonderful portable ultrasound machine we have (donated through the generosity of Avera Health Systems in Sioux Falls, SD), I saw two active little fetuses! So, I called in all the nurses to have a look themselves (and I asked Cherlie to take some photos of it all). In the excitement, we forgot to take a photo of the patient herself! She was thrilled to find out she was carrying twins. We’re praying for a successful pregnancy for her and her family! (fb)
