Agnes was referred to Sanctuary for Families in 2019 as a volunteer interpreter. Over the past six years, Agnes has provided ongoing interpreter support to a family receiving services from Sanctuary’s Anti-Trafficking Initiative; assisting the family through immigration processes, public assistance applications, and many court proceedings. “For the clients, it is very important to have an interpreter who they can trust (particularly in human trafficking or domestic violence cases) and who follows their case throughout the years, so they don’t need to rely on a new interpreter every time, who might not understand their situation and misrepresent them. It makes a difference – they don’t feel alone any more”. RSVP for Pillars of Change on 4/9 and learn more about Agnes' work here: https://bit.ly/43isGt0 (fb)

New York’s justice system is failing survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Under current discovery laws, cases are being dismissed over minor procedural errors — not because the facts aren’t there, but because of technicalities. When that happens, survivors lose protection, and abusers avoid accountability. Last week, Sanctuary CEO Judy Kluger and Associate Program Director Luba Reife joined advocates, DAs, and community leaders to demand urgent reforms in Albany. Survivors cannot keep being pushed aside by a broken system. Our CEO Judy Kluger lays out exactly what’s at stake — and what must change — in her recent op-ed published by Empire Report. 🔗 Read it here: https://empirereportnewyork.com/new-yorks-discovery-laws-are-failing-survivors-the-legislature-must-act/ (fb)
