🎣Meet Jeremy Fuller, an avid fisherman and a participant of the Self-Directed Program at Aspire of WNY! With the support of his staff, he picked his favorite hobby back up about eight years ago, but fishing with only the use of his left hand wasn’t easy. That all changed when he discovered an electric reel, making his pastime more accessible and enjoyable. What started as fun quickly turned into advocacy. While fishing twice a week at Sprague Brook Park, Jeremy noticed the restrooms weren’t fully accessible—so he spoke up. Thanks to his efforts, a new support bar was installed, creating a more inclusive space for all park-goers. Jeremy has since expanded his fishing adventures to Green Lake, Chestnut Ridge, and Taylor Road Park—three of which now have accessible bathrooms! Recently, he even participated in a virtual meeting with the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy to advocate for accessible picnic tables, and he hopes to join an Erie County committee focused on outdoor accessibility next. 👏 Way to go, Jeremy!
