TEACH

We aim to provide for the educational needs of the Mayan children in Guatemala. TEACH actively responds to the schooling needs of underserved children in Maya communities in Guatemala. How TEACH Works- We listen to local leaders and then partner with them to meet the educational needs of their children. This may mean funds for teacher salaries, contributions for expenses of middle school students who board away from home, or scholarships for students to continue their education. TEACH directly affects the lives of approximately 600 Maya children and their communities in rural eastern Guatemala.TEACH Empowers Maya communities to achieve greater social and economic self-sufficiency through opportunities for education while respecting their cultural norms.TEACH serves indigenous people in Guatemala who:-Are socially and economically isolated-Live in moderate to extreme poverty-Are victims of decades of civil war-Average only 3.5 years of schooling-Have high illiteracy rates-Are victims of social discriminationTEACH has thirteen projects: -Four primary schools-Three middle schools-Three boarding facilities -Three unique scholarship programsWe have an all-volunteer board of directors who meet monthly. Funds are wired to Guatemala four times a year. Several members of the board travel to Guatemala one or two times a year at their own expense. One board member currently lives in Guatemala.
