Assistant Race Director of The Steamtown Marathon Since 1996 Facebook is our online community for individuals to connect and share experiences about the annual Steamtown Marathon. THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO SUPPORT AMATEUR ATHLETICISM IN NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA. THE FOCAL POINT OF THE ORGANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES IS THE SPONSORSHIP OF A 26.2-MILE MARATHON. THE EVENT HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS A CERTIFIED OLYMPIC QUALIFYING COURSE BY THE USATF AND SERVES AS A QUALIFIER FOR A NUMBER OF OTHER AMATEUR MARATHON EVENTS. THE EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL PARTICIPANTS, INCLUDING INDIVIDUALS THAT COMPETE IN THE WHEELCHAIR DIVISION OF THE RACE. THE LAYOUT OF THE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO HIGHLIGHT THE CULTURAL AND HISTORIC ASPECTS OF THE LACKAWANNA VALLEY OF NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA BY HIGHLIGHING SEVERAL AREAS OF HISTORIC AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE IN THE TOWNS LOCATED ALONG THE RACE COURSE. THE ORGANIZATION STRIVES TO FOSTER AND PROMOTE A HEALTH LIFESTYLE BY MEANS OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE. THE NET PROCEEDS WILL BE DONATED TO ST. JOSEPH'S CENTER WHICH IS A SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT CARES FOR MEDICALLY FRAGILE CHILDREN.

RUN STEAMTOWN EXPERIENCE the rich history of Northeast PA from Forest City to Scranton The 28th Running of the Steamtown Marathonwill be held on Sunday October 12 2025. Registration opens on April 1st. The Steamtown Marathon benefits the children and residents of St. Josephs Center Scranton.
